An AI-made feature film is heading to US and UK theaters, and its makers say it is the first of its kind to carry a rating from the Motion Picture Association. Gods Don't Give Gifts is directed by Zack London, the YouTube creator known online as Gossip Goblin, and opens December 4 in a limited run, rated R.
Deadline reported the trailer's release and the filmmakers' claim that the theatrical engagement is a milestone for a fully AI feature and that it is the first AI film to receive an MPA rating. Variety reported the film carries an R rating from the Motion Picture Association and that its co-producer, the AI studio Fable, moved the release from October 30 to December 4 to sit closer to Oscar campaign season. Fandango lists it at 1 hour 44 minutes, rated R, opening Friday, December 4, 2026.

Gods Don't Give Gifts is an anthology of four stories set in the "Second Cycle of Humanity," part of the wider Gossip Goblin universe of "13 cycles," per Variety. The film's official site describes the world of Niiro Cradle, where consciousness can be transferred into synthetic bodies and NiiroCore, the planet's governing body, controls 97% of mindshare. Its four stories follow people using those technologies to chase ordinary human desires.
The visuals are generated with AI tools. London told The Hollywood Reporter his team runs somewhere between 15 and 25 tools across the pipeline, with Midjourney a favorite for still images, and assembles the film in DaVinci Resolve like a conventional edit. The human side is deliberate. London told Forbes the film uses human voice actors, musicians and a foley artist, and he says performance, sound and writing remain decisions he does not want to delegate. Fandango credits Jacob Batchelor as a screenwriter alongside London as director.
It is not the first feature made with AI, but IndieWire reported that AI work has largely reached audiences as shorts at festivals or online rather than as a booked theatrical release. The distribution model follows YouTuber films such as Markiplier's Iron Lung, which Variety reported grossed $51.2 million. Fable puts the run at fewer than 1,000 US screens, according to Forbes.
Fable plans to submit the film for Best Animated Feature, with screenings for Academy voters, pre-release screenings for critics and a Los Angeles billboard campaign, Variety reported. The Academy's published rules say AI tools "neither help nor harm the chances of achieving a nomination," and its May ban covers AI actors and AI-assisted scripts. A strong theatrical run could show that AI-made features can be booked and marketed like any other film. A weak one could leave them where they have mostly lived, online.
