Resemble AI finds AI media in 1 of 11 Meta ad files
Two of 3,379 flagged files disclosed AI in the ad copy, and none of the 971 files checked for provenance data carried any.

Key takeaways
- Resemble AI's 2026 Synthetic Advertising Report flagged 3,379 of 37,768 Facebook and Instagram ad files (8.9%) as AI-generated or manipulated.
- Two of those 3,379 files disclosed AI in the ad copy, a rate of 0.06%, and Turkish Airlines was the only brand that disclosed on its own ad.
- Bait pages ran AI in 463 of 649 files (71.3%), against 1,971 of 28,463 files (6.9%) on brands' own pages.
- New York's synthetic performer disclosure law has applied since June 9, 2026, and Article 50 of the EU AI Act since August 2, 2026.
Resemble AI says 1 in 11 image and video files in Facebook and Instagram ads it scanned was AI-generated or manipulated. Almost none of them said so.
The finding comes from the company's 2026 Synthetic Advertising Report, which Resemble published on October 22, 2026, according to PPC Land's write-up. Resemble AI is a Mountain View company that sells software for detecting synthetic media. It built the report by searching each company's name in Meta's public Ad Library in September 2026 and running every image and video file it found through Resemble Detect, its own detection product.
Per the report, Detect flagged 3,379 of 37,768 files as AI-generated or manipulated. That is 8.9%, or roughly one file in 11. The scan covered 15,433 ads published by 2,298 Facebook and Instagram pages, spanning 509 companies across 26 industries. Netinfluencer's Dragomir Stojkov reported the same rates on October 22.
Two of those 3,379 files mentioned AI anywhere in the ad copy, a rate of 0.06%. Only one brand disclosed on its own ad: Turkish Airlines, in an International Cat Day video for its Touristanbul program. The ad copy ends with a footnote saying the visuals "were created using artificial intelligence technology." The report says 70% of the fakes it labeled were photoreal, built to pass as a real photo or video, and 46% showed a person.
The rate moved far more by who ran the ad than by what industry the advertiser was in.
The report gives the brand-page and bait-page rows; PPC Land gives the other-advertiser one. On brands' own pages 1,971 of 28,463 files were flagged, or 6.9%. Among other advertisers it was 924 of 8,428, or 11.0%. Bait pages, the clickbait, search-arbitrage and scam pages that use a brand name as a lure, ran AI in 463 of 649 files, or 71.3%. Resemble says three in four of the bait pages' fakes were clickbait advertorials.
PPC Land reports the highest industry rates: consumer packaged goods at 13.4%, consumer electronics at 12.6%, fintech and crypto at 11.2%, and prediction markets and betting at 10.6%.
The disclosure gap sits against rules that already apply. Ropes & Gray notes that New York's synthetic performer disclosure law was enacted June 9, 2026, and the European Commission's own FAQ says Article 50 of the EU AI Act has applied since August 2, 2026. Both put the duty on whoever makes or deploys the ad, not on the platform carrying it.
Resemble's numbers are detector scores, not findings of wrongdoing, and the report includes no response from the companies it names or from Meta.
For creators who make AI-assisted brand content, the duty moves to the buyer. Ropes & Gray notes that New York's law applies to the business producing the ad, and only when it has actual knowledge that a synthetic performer is in it. The firm reads the law as broad enough that a national campaign is easier to run on one disclosure standard than to carve out state by state.
What to watch next: Resemble says a follow-up focused on UGC and influencer content is coming, with no date, according to PPC Land. The EU has also given generative systems already on the market until December 2, 2026 to meet Article 50's machine-readable marking rules, PPC Land reports.
