Key takeaways

  • The 1 Billion Followers Summit AI Film Award in Dubai pays a $1,000,000 grand prize, the largest stated top prize in AI film, with entries closing November 20, 2026.
  • Astana's first AI Film Festival paid a $450,000 Grand Prix to Latvia's Nikolay Shestak for The First Honest Day, part of a $1 million prize budget drawn from a $2 million festival fund.
  • Higgsfield's Global Film Festival lists a $500,000 first prize inside a $1,000,000 pool, but its winners had not been announced as of 19 October 2026.
  • Bali International AI Film Festival and Austin AI Film Festival publish no cash amount, so neither can be ranked on prize money.

Dubai's 1 Billion Followers Summit has opened submissions for the second edition of its AI Film Award, and the grand prize is again $1,000,000. That single figure is larger than the top prize at every other AI film award that publishes one, and it is the anchor of this list. The second edition opened on 30 September 2026 and closes on 20 November 2026, with the winner announced at the summit in Dubai from 8 to 10 January 2027 (1 Billion Followers Summit).

The pegs are stacked. Astana's first AI Film Festival paid out on 3 October, the World AI Movie Festival in Marbella finished on 8 October, Austin's second AI Film Festival ran 16 and 17 October, and Lumara's inaugural edition screens its finalists on 26 October. Two of those awards never state a cash prize, and one more had not announced its winners by 19 October.

This ranking weighs one documented thing: the largest prize a cited page actually states, as of 19 October 2026. Where an award publishes a total pool but no top prize, or no money at all, it is named at the end instead of ranked. Five awards had a stated top prize.

1. 1 Billion Followers Summit AI Film Award, Dubai ($1,000,000)

The AI Film Award is run by the 1 Billion Followers Summit, organized by the UAE Government Media Office, in partnership with BytePlus, the enterprise arm of ByteDance, and supported by TikTok this year (Gulf News). One winning creator takes the full $1,000,000. The catch is the tool: at least 70 percent of each film must be generated with Dreamina Seedance, ByteDance's video model, which makes this the only award on the list tied to a single model.

Films must run five to seven minutes in 16:9 at 1080p, in MOV or MP4, with English subtitles. The first edition, in January 2026, required Google's Gemini and drew 3,500 entries; Tunisian filmmaker Zoubeir Jlassi won with "Lily" (1 Billion Followers Summit). This edition's shortlist of ten is due 15 December, five finalists on 25 December, and the winner in Dubai in January. For a five-to-seven-minute short, nothing else on the beat pays close to this.

  • Prize: $1,000,000 grand prize
  • Who runs it: 1 Billion Followers Summit, with BytePlus and TikTok
  • Entry requirement: 5-7 minute film, 16:9 1080p, at least 70% generated with Dreamina Seedance
  • Deadline: 20 November 2026 (opened 30 September 2026)

2. Higgsfield Global Film Festival ($500,000)

Higgsfield's own contest offers a $1,000,000 pool split across 14 placements, and first place is $500,000, with $200,000 for second, $100,000 for third, $100,000 for the Audience Choice award, and ten honorable mentions at $10,000 each (Higgsfield). Every dollar is cash. The requirement is strict: video and image generation must happen inside Higgsfield's Cinema Studio, external AI generation is not allowed, and all audio, including music, voice and sound design, must be AI-generated.

The competition closed on 16 September 2026, and Higgsfield says all winners, including Audience Choice, will be announced in the last week of October. As of 19 October, that announcement has not happened, so the $500,000 top prize is stated but not yet paid. The pool spreads across 14 winners, which is more than any other award here, though the top prize is half of Dubai's.

  • Prize: $500,000 first place, inside a $1,000,000 pool across 14 winners
  • Who runs it: Higgsfield
  • Entry requirement: short cinematic film generated entirely within Higgsfield, with all audio AI-generated
  • Deadline: closed 16 September 2026; winners due in the last week of October 2026

3. Astana AI Film Festival ($450,000)

Kazakhstan's first Astana AI Film Festival, held 1 to 3 October 2026, paid a $450,000 Grand Prix to Latvian filmmaker Nikolay Shestak for "The First Honest Day" (Euronews). Second place went to India's Abhik Banerjee for "SITARA" at $200,000, and third to Spain's Ernest Desumbila for "Looking For Perseida" at $100,000. Five open-competition categories paid $50,000 each, adding another $250,000.

The festival reported 8,067 entries from 125 countries and 4,756 creators, narrowed to 25 finalists (Astana Times). Its total prize and support fund was $2 million, half of it ($1 million) for prizes and the other half for investment in Kazakh AI production, according to Qazinform. Organizers told the Astana Times before the event that the combined pool was $2.75 million, so the headline fund figure depends on which briefing you read. The Grand Prix is the number that holds: $450,000, just below Higgsfield's first prize and just above half of Dubai's.

  • Prize: $450,000 Grand Prix (second $200,000, third $100,000)
  • Who runs it: Astana AI Film Festival, Kazakhstan, funded in part by the Freedom Shapagat Corporate Fund
  • Entry requirement: AI-generated films across a main theme and an open competition of 19 genres
  • Deadline: first edition closed 3 October 2026

4. Lumara Film Festival ($32,000)

Lumara's inaugural edition, presented by MoonPay and Venice, offers a Grand Prize of $32,000 plus 3.2 million Venice AI credits, and a Jury Selection award of $20,000 plus 2 million credits (PR Newswire). Five category awards pay between $8,000 and $12,000 each, for a stated total of $100,000 in cash prizes (Venice).

Entry was free and open worldwide, with any AI platform allowed, and drew more than 700 films. Six finalists were named on 16 October, including "Black Thunder," "Candy" and "Mianmian," and winners are announced live at the Roxy Hotel Cinema in New York on 26 October. The credits matter here: 3.2 million Venice credits stack on top of the cash for the winner. The cash top prize is still the smallest of the four largest awards on this list.

  • Prize: $32,000 Grand Prize plus 3.2 million Venice AI credits
  • Who runs it: Lumara Film Festival, presented by MoonPay and Venice
  • Entry requirement: any AI filmmaking platform; free and open worldwide
  • Deadline: submissions closed 15 September 2026; winners announced 26 October 2026

5. World AI Movie Festival, Marbella ($500)

The World AI Movie Festival (WAIMF) held its first edition on 7 and 8 October 2026 at the Red Dog Cinema in Puerto Banus, Marbella, and named 11 winners (RuntimeWire). Its Grand Prix pays $500 plus a crystal trophy, per the festival's own listing, and the other ten awards are category honors rather than cash (FilmFreeway).

Films must run at least four minutes including credits, and the festival accepts both fully AI-generated work and hybrids mixing AI with live action. A $500 top prize is a rounding error next to Dubai's $1 million, but WAIMF is one of the few festivals that states a cash number at all, which is why it makes the list and several larger-name events do not.

  • Prize: $500 Grand Prix plus a crystal trophy
  • Who runs it: World AI Movie Festival, Puerto Banus, Marbella
  • Entry requirement: AI-generated or hybrid film, at least four minutes including credits
  • Deadline: first edition ran 7-8 October 2026

Not ranked: the awards with no stated top prize

Three more festivals paid out or selected winners in the same window but publish no comparable cash figure, so none can be placed on a prize ranking.

The Tyrannus Angel Awards in Los Angeles states a total prize pool of $50,000 across all categories, with nine awards (Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Production in each of three categories) plus 30 finalist recognitions. It selected 34 films from 636 submissions across 84 countries and announces recipients on 24 October, but it does not publish a per-award amount, so there is no top prize to rank.

The Bali International AI Film Festival states no cash prize at all. Its Season 5 prizes are laurels, a live 4K screening at Cinema Paradiso in Ubud, and sponsor software subscriptions, including a one-year Dehancer plugin and a one-year Blotato AI subscription. Filipino director Vincent Soberano's "Secret Apartment" took its top honor, the Gold Award for Best AI Major Motion Picture.

The Austin AI Film Festival, a Texas nonprofit, ran its second annual event on 16 and 17 October and lists eleven categories, but its entry page says cash prizes and sponsor awards "will be announced prior to finalist selections," and no amount has been published.
