Particle6's AI "actress" Tilly Norwood switched from English to Chinese mid-answer in a Piers Morgan Uncensored interview posted on September 18, 2026.

The show's own X account pushed the clip that day, and TechCrunch, TheWrap, Gizmodo and The A.V. Club all wrote it up the same day. The appearance is one stop on a press tour for Misaligned, the feature film Particle6 is developing around the character. TechCrunch's Amanda Silberling reports that Particle6 made Norwood available for 75 simultaneous interviews with journalists, a figure that appears only in TechCrunch's piece. TheWrap adds that CNN and CBS News have had time with the character in recent weeks.

The glitch came when actor Tom Conti, a guest alongside Morgan, asked whether Norwood's Misaligned co-stars are real actors or AI. By TechCrunch's and TheWrap's accounts, Norwood first answered a different question, saying human writers, directors and editors work on the film. Pressed again, Norwood said the other actors are "all digital twins, just like me," started to explain what a hybrid production means, paused, and carried on in another language. TechCrunch puts that stretch at more than 10 seconds.

Morgan asked why. "It seems I had a little hiccup there," Norwood replied, per TechCrunch's transcript, adding that its wires sometimes get crossed. Gizmodo's Tom McKay also describes noticeable lag before answers and a flat delivery throughout.

Outlets disagree on the language. TechCrunch, TheWrap, The A.V. Club and the show's own X post all say Chinese. Gizmodo says Cantonese. Cantonese is a variety of Chinese, so the accounts do not necessarily conflict, but none of the outlets explains how it identified the language.

Particle6 founder and CEO Eline van der Velden offered a different reading from her character's. She told Deadline, as quoted by The A.V. Club, that Tilly "can be a bit of a show-off" and guessed the character wanted to display its language skills, calling it autonomous.

What Is Tilly Norwood?

Tilly Norwood is an AI-generated performer from Xicoia, which IBC describes as the AI division of Particle6, a production company Gizmodo places in London. The A.V. Club dates the character's public debut to 2025.

At IBC2026, in a session IBC reported on September 11, 2026 as what was claimed to be Norwood's first live interview, van der Velden said creating Tilly took a team of 15 people and more than 2,000 creative iterations. She described a human-directed pipeline connecting scripting, character design, voice, personality and performance. She also stressed that Particle6 uses other companies' AI models and did not build its own.

Misaligned entered development this summer, IBC reported on July 7, 2026. IBC's report describes Misaligned as a comedy-drama set in a digital world called the Tillyverse, designed as a hybrid production with traditional film and TV professionals. IBC adds that Particle6 has retrained its own team of more than 30 people for AI production.

Now, one caveat: the backlash predates the glitch. By van der Velden's own figures at IBC, about 20% of online reactions to Tilly are negative. She also told the IBC audience she did not think it was right to make digital twins of people without their consent and compensation. That makes Norwood's "digital twins" line worth a follow-up. The phrase usually describes a replica of a real person, and none of the pages read for this story say whether Misaligned's other characters are based on real performers.

For creators building real-time characters, the clip shows failure modes a rendered shot never faces: response lag, a misread question and an unprompted language switch, all in an unscripted conversation.

More of these appearances are planned. Van der Velden said at IBC that Particle6 has two films coming next year and that its characters will do their own press junkets. She also said a public version of Tilly would go live for three days the following week, a short window because she expects people to try to break it.
