Utopai Studios opens PAI, built around its No. 2 video model
The studio says its Utopai X model sits second on Artificial Analysis' text-to-video leaderboard, nine points behind Alibaba's Wan 3.0.

Key takeaways
- Utopai Studios launched PAI, a production platform that keeps a film's screenplay, characters, locations and references attached to every shot.
- Utopai X, the studio's video model, ranks No. 2 on Artificial Analysis' text-to-video leaderboard with audio at an Elo of 1,150 in the September 29, 2026 results.
- PAI is already in use on The Most Serious Fart, an animated feature written and directed by Mike Bender.
- Selected takes can be exported into Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve.
Utopai Studios opened PAI, a production platform that carries a film's screenplay, characters, locations and visual references from script through to finished shots, alongside Utopai X, the video model that generates the footage inside it.
The Mountain View studio announced both on October 1 in a post on its own site. PAI stands for Production Assistive Intelligence. A screenplay is broken into scenes and shots, and an AI agent the studio calls a Production Assistant uses that material to propose shot plans and visual iterations. The filmmaker decides what gets made, kept and revised, and previous versions stay available as a project develops.
Utopai X supplies the generation. The studio says the model is strong on reflections, caustics and spatial consistency, the behaviours that decide whether light, objects and characters hold together as a shot gets more complex. Utopai X is built on an existing video foundation model and developed further against the studio's own production needs. Finished footage can move into an editing timeline and out to Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, per Animation World Network.
The ranking is the part that travels. In the September 29, 2026 results on Artificial Analysis' Text-to-Video Leaderboard With Audio, Utopai X sits at No. 2 with an Elo of 1,150, trailing the top-ranked Wan 3.0 by nine points, according to a Variety partner-content feature on the studio. That also makes it the highest-ranked model from a US-based company on that board. Rankings move; Utopai's own post is the source for the score, and the board dates itself.
Utopai Studios is an actual production house rather than a tool maker. It develops, finances and produces its own film and television projects, and both PAI and Utopai X are already in use on The Most Serious Fart, the animated feature written and directed by Mike Bender that the studio announced in July. "Technology is most useful when it gives filmmakers more control over their ideas," chief scientific officer Zijian He said in the partner feature.
The pitch is continuity. A three-minute sequence is dozens of generations, and the shot nobody wants to hand-build is the one that has to look like the shot before it. PAI turns that into project state: approved references get reused rather than re-described, and a revision does not reset the brief. On a smaller job the same machinery is overhead, and PAI is priced and positioned for teams, not solo creators.
PAI is live at pai.utopaistudios.com; individual plans on its pricing page start at $15 a month, with credit top-ups and a separate Enterprise tier for studios.
