Alibaba's Wan 3.0 Generates 30 Seconds in One Pass, at a Price That Splits by Platform

Alibaba Cloud's Wan 3.0 went generally available on August 24, 2026, and its headline spec is a single generation that now runs up to 30 seconds — double the 15-second window of Wan 2.7, according to Alibaba Cloud's own launch post on its Community blog. A single pass means no stitching: the same continuous shot can hold a character, a camera move and a line of dialogue for the full half-minute instead of getting spliced from three or four short clips.

Alibaba calls the reference system "omni-reference." Per the official Wan3.0 Video Generation guide, a single request can take up to 10 reference images, 5 reference video clips (15 seconds combined) and 5 reference audio clips (also 15 seconds combined), plus one document or public web link — PDFs, slide decks and spreadsheets all count. Mixed text, image, video and audio references get held consistent across the generated shot, and the model's API reference confirms audio — dialogue, music and sound effects — renders in the same pass by default, not as a separate step. Output tops out at 1080p; Alibaba's own pages do not claim 4K, and that circulating claim, like the idea that Wan 3.0 shipped with open weights, is not something Alibaba states on any page read for this story.

Here is where the story splits. On Alibaba Cloud Model Studio's own pricing page, Wan 3.0 Standard lists at $0.05, $0.10 and $0.20 per second for 480P, 720P and 1080P — meaning a full 30-second 1080p clip runs $6.00 at list. Wan 2.7's comparable model, wan2.7-t2v, lists at $0.10 per second at 720P and $0.15 at 1080P on the same page. That makes Wan 3.0's 1080p list price higher than Wan 2.7's, not lower. Alibaba's @Alibaba_Wan account says a 30% launch discount on Wan 3.0 Standard runs from August 23 to September 23, 2026 — three days from today. During that window the discounted rate works out to roughly $0.035, $0.07 and $0.14 per second, which puts Wan 3.0 back below Wan 2.7 at 720P and 1080P. After September 23, on Alibaba's own numbers, that gap reopens.

On fal.ai's hosted marketplace the comparison runs differently — and fal's own pages do not agree with each other. Fal's Wan 3.0 page charges $0.05, $0.10 and $0.20 per second by resolution, matching Alibaba's list price. Its Wan 2.7 model page quotes $0.10 per second at 720p and $0.15 at 1080p — tiered, and with no 480p option at all — while fal's own Wan 2.7 landing page states that "all endpoints are priced at $0.10 per second of generated video" and prices a 10-second 1080p clip at $1.00. Read the model page and Wan 3.0 ties Wan 2.7 at 720p, costs about 1.33x as much at 1080p ($0.20 against $0.15), and has no rival 480p rate to compare against because fal's Wan 2.7 page offers no 480p tier; read the landing page and Wan 3.0 undercuts at 480p, ties at 720p and costs double at 1080p. Two platforms give two pricing stories, and fal gives a third on its own.
