Key takeaways

  • World launched World ID for banking and finance at Money20/20 in Las Vegas on October 18, 2026, bundling the World ID app, World ID for Zoom and World ID for Agents.
  • World ID for Zoom is now generally available through the Zoom Marketplace for Zoom's enterprise customers globally, after a limited beta that began in April 2026.
  • World named Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital and VanEck Funds as design partners, named no bank running the suite in production, and disclosed no pricing.
  • Tools for Humanity, World's lead developer, is conducting layoffs, Business Insider reported in June 2026, with more than 500 employees at a reported $2.5 billion valuation.

World, the identity project co-founded by Sam Altman, launched World ID for banking and finance on October 18, 2026 at the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas, its first version of World ID built for a single industry, and named no bank running it in production.

World co-founder Alex Blania unveiled the suite on stage at the conference, which runs October 18 to 21, according to Biometric Update. The offering bundles three products World already sold separately: the World ID app, an identity wallet that stores the cryptographic credentials World calls Proofs; World ID for Zoom, which checks that a person on a video call is a real human; and World ID for Agents, the delegation tool World launched with Coinbase in March 2026 as AgentKit and widened in June. World's announcement lists Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital and VanEck Funds as design partners.

The status change is the Zoom integration. World ID for Zoom is now generally available through the Zoom Marketplace after a limited beta that began in April 2026, and Tools for Humanity, World's lead developer, has joined Zoom's ISV Exchange Program. The check matches three images: the one captured when a user verified at a World Orb, a live selfie taken in the World ID app, and a frame from the Zoom video feed. All three must match before a Human Badge appears on the participant's tile. It needs Zoom desktop client 7.0.5 or later, and World says it is available to Zoom's enterprise customers globally through the Marketplace. No biometric data reaches Zoom; the match runs on the user's phone.

Design partners are not customers. The Block and Unchained each named four design partners, both leaving out Pantera Capital, and both reported that World identified no bank using the product. Neither reported a price, and Unchained reported no pricing and no rollout timeline. VanEck Funds tested the Zoom check during the April beta, according to World's April post.

World is selling into a documented loss. In early 2024, an employee in the Hong Kong office of the engineering firm Arup authorized 15 transfers totaling HK$200 million, about $25.6 million, after joining a video call in which every other participant was a deepfake, according to CNN and the Guardian. World's announcement cites the case and cites a Deloitte forecast that AI-enabled fraud losses in the U.S. could reach $40 billion by 2027, up from an estimated $12.3 billion in 2023.

"As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in all aspects of our lives, enterprises are requesting individuals provide 'Proofs' about themselves to help mitigate fraud and increase trust," Tools for Humanity president Sandro Herbig said in the release. "World ID for banking and finance offers a suite of tools to add an AI-safe trust layer across their internal and external systems."

World says more than 18 million people hold a Proof of Human, a figure it has given since March 2026, when it said it had verified nearly 18 million people, according to The Block. The World Foundation raised $52.5 million in July 2026 through a one-year locked token sale led by Pantera Capital, according to Biometric Update. World Money, a self-custody payments app, launched in September 2026.

The company behind the suite has cut staff. Tools for Humanity is conducting layoffs, Business Insider reported in June 2026, with more than 500 employees; TechCrunch put the company at a $2.5 billion valuation. World has not named a bank running the banking suite.

The Zoom check is the piece most likely to reach creators first, because it runs inside a platform they already use. If a host requires the Human Badge in a waiting room, presenters and clients could need an Orb-verified World ID to join a call, though World has not said when that becomes mandatory or whether it ever will.

World said it will present the technology at Zoomtopia, Zoom's conference running October 20 to 22, 2026, and at Cloudflare Connect, running October 19 to 21 in San Francisco.
