Higgsfield meters its API by the second, outside its subscriptions

Higgsfield has put per-second pricing on its video API and split that billing cleanly from its subscription business, so money paid into a subscription plan cannot be spent on API calls, and an API key does not require a plan at all.

The catalogue is public about the top of the range. Higgsfield's own model page lists Kling 3.0 Standard at $0.084 per second with 50 percent off shown, and prices ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 at $0.144 per second with a 30 percent launch discount. Seedance 2.5's model console gives the honest version of that number: a range of $0.144 to $0.3236 per second across 480p and 720p and across the four to thirty second durations the model accepts. The rate you pay inside that range is set by settings you choose, not by a single published figure.

The discount is a ladder rather than a discount. Higgsfield's FAQ says a new account starts at 15 percent off every model, and that picking four more models raises the discount toward 50 percent; verifying a business email and adding $15 of balance is part of the same signup flow. Every key opens with 20 concurrent requests, and raising that limit is a settings change rather than a review. Volume discounts apply automatically as usage grows.

Higgsfield's framing, as a reviewer walking through the launch put it on September 17, is that the API undercuts fal on shared models by roughly 15 percent and carries some models fal does not list, with Seedance 2.5 cited at about $0.815 per second against $1.164. The catalogue page does not print that comparison, and it does not need to: it prints the range the comparison depends on, and a range is only a bargain at the end of it you would actually choose.

Two things a buyer should read before switching. First, the 15 to 50 percent spread means the same clip costs different amounts on different accounts, so the number that matters is the discounted rate your account qualifies for rather than the headline. Second, the second-rate comparison is not the only one available: ByteDance's own list rate is resold by several platforms below fal's published rate, so the relevant question is not whether Higgsfield beats fal but whether it beats the cheapest route to the same weights. Higgsfield answers a narrower version of that on its FAQ, telling teams already on fal or Replicate that they can switch by swapping a single key and keeping the rest of their code.

A per-second API changes the shape of what a small studio can attempt. Subscription credits punish early experimentation and reward batch planning, and metered billing does the reverse, which is the argument Higgsfield is making.
