Perplexity Computer adds MiniMax H3 and Seedance 2.5 video

Perplexity Computer can now generate video inside the same conversation where it does research and writes copy, using MiniMax H3 and ByteDance's Seedance 2.5. Perplexity announced the addition on September 21, 2026, and said it is available now to Pro and Max subscribers.

Computer is Perplexity's agentic workspace, and the company describes it as an orchestration layer that splits a request into tasks and routes each task to a model suited to it. Opus 4.6 handles the reasoning, Gemini supports deep research, Nano Banana generates images, and Veo 3.1 was already the video option. H3 and Seedance 2.5 widen that roster rather than replacing anything.

The two models answer different questions. MiniMax H3 takes text, image, video and audio inputs and its maker states it generates up to 15 seconds at up to 2K resolution with native stereo audio produced in the same pass. ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 goes longer: up to 30 seconds in a single generation, with further extension, and heavier reference control.

A creator can now ask Computer for a campaign clip, a product demo or a social asset and get finished video back beside the script, captions and images, without moving files between tools. That is the pitch, and it is the same ground dedicated editors already occupy with timelines, node graphs and deterministic versioning, which no one has claimed Computer matches.

What Perplexity did not publish is where the practical limits sit. Per AlphaSignal's read of the announcement, there is no word yet on generation allowances per tier, queue priority, export formats, regional availability, commercial-use terms, or whether Max receives higher limits than Pro. Computer is priced at $20 a month for Pro and $200 a month for Max, and the video feature is bundled into those tiers rather than sold separately. No dedicated video API was announced, which matters if you were hoping to call it from a pipeline rather than a chat window.

That gap is worth watching before you move production work onto it. A conversational feature and a programmable one are different contracts: one is a subscription with unpublished limits, the other has authentication, rate limits, webhooks and storage you can build against.
